Long Point extends into Lake Erie like a giant finger creating migrating sandbars instigating  many shipwrecks, with many of the more fascinating wrecks being right off the tip of the point. Long Point has claimed over 400 ships wrecked or sunk with their treasures lost or stolen, thus the moniker "Gold Coast" one of many names anointing the area over the centuries
